Gathering Memories
About a year ago, Elizabeth Saunders invited me to participate as a guest artist in the Gathering Memories project, a Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Disease in the UK. My family was personally touched by Alzheimer's Disease, so I was compelled to accept this invitation with gusto and gratitude.
While this is a worldwide epidemic, a group of Textile Artists in the UK have launched a serious initiative to raise money for research.
The Gathering Memories Website explains:
"‘Gathering Memories’ is a community project which aims to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society...The project was initiated by a team of Textile Artists, Elizabeth Saunders, Wendy Fleckner, Jane Ashe, Mary Booy and Jeanette Neale following on from a previous art work installation called ‘Gathered Memories’; more details and a link to this initial installation may be found under the History tab on the main menu bar."
Many other textile artists supported the effort by buying kits that contained a strand of the golden-threaded silk from the original exhibit. Their work is also submitted for auction. (see below)
This is is the piece I created for the project.

If you would like to see all the entries for this fundraiser, visit the Gathering Memories - Memory Gallery
or the Artist's Gallery, all of which are available in the silent auction.
If you are interested in bidding on one of the silent- auction benefit stitched works, please visit the Gathering Memories Website or visit the exhibit in person.
The submitted artworks will be exhibited and auctioned for further fund raising at:
The Willis Museum, Basingstoke, from 30th June – 4th August 2018
and Southampton City Art Gallery.
The Silent Auction will take place throughout the duration of these two exhibitions via written bids and/or via the website. Bidding will close on 30th September 2018 and the winning bidders will be notified by the end of October 2018.
